RED Engineering Design

RED is a global engineering consultancy specialising in the design of complex, mission-critical Data Centre and digital infrastructure environments.

For more than two decades, we have been at the forefront of Data Centre engineering - delivering high-performance, energy-efficient and future-ready facilities that power the digital economy. From hyperscale AI campuses to enterprise mission-critical environments, RED designs the infrastructure that enables global connectivity, compute, and intelligence at scale.

Today, as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and high-density digital workloads accelerate, the role of infrastructure has fundamentally changed. Data Centres are no longer passive facilities - they are active energy systems, computing ecosystems, and critical enablers of economic growth.

RED exists at the centre of this transformation.

We combine deep engineering expertise with advanced digital design capability to deliver resilient, scalable and sustainable infrastructure across the full lifecycle - from strategy and feasibility through to design, construction, commissioning and operational optimisation.

Our team of over 1,000 specialists operates across Europe, the Middle East, and APAC, supporting clients in delivering some of the world’s most complex and high-density digital infrastructure projects.

Since 2017, RED has masterplanned more than 50GW of Data Centre capacity globally, with approximately 20GW currently in active planning and design (2026). Our project footprint spans over 31 countries, with more than 1,100 data centre projects delivered to date.

Designing Infrastructure for the AI Era

The rapid rise of AI has fundamentally reshaped infrastructure demand.

High-performance computing environments require unprecedented levels of power density, advanced cooling strategies, intelligent energy management, and highly resilient systems capable of operating continuously at scale.

RED is a recognised leader in designing AI-ready infrastructure, including hyperscale, colocation, edge, enterprise, and high-performance computing facilities.

Our expertise spans

  • AI-ready MEP and ICT engineering for high-density workloads
  • Intelligent commissioning and operational optimisation using digital engineering approaches
  • Sustainability and energy optimisation strategies aligned with net-zero targets
  • Data centres as flexible energy and grid assets
  • Modular and scalable infrastructure design for rapid deployment
  • Retrofit and modernisation of legacy facilities

We are also advancing the integration of AI-driven design methodologies, digital twins and performance modelling to optimise efficiency, resilience and operational outcomes across the lifecycle of infrastructure assets.

AI, NVIDIA and the Future of Digital Infrastructure

RED is proud to be a Preferred Partner of NVIDIA, supporting the development of next-generation AI infrastructure ecosystems.

This collaboration reflects our shared focus on enabling AI factories - environments designed to support extreme compute workloads, GPU-driven architectures, and future AI training and inference platforms.

Our recent AI Partner Conference brought together leaders from across technology, energy and academia - including NVIDIA, Rolls-Royce SMR and Durham University - to explore the engineering challenges behind AI-scale infrastructure and the future of digital systems design.

This engagement reflects a broader shift: infrastructure is now inseparable from compute, energy and intelligence.

RED is positioned at the intersection of these domains.

Engineering Capability Across the Full Lifecycle

RED delivers integrated engineering services across the entire infrastructure lifecycle:

Advisory, Planning & Due Diligence

We support clients in early-stage decision making through technical due diligence, feasibility studies, site selection, capacity planning, risk analysis and independent technical validation.

Design & Engineering

We provide concept, schematic and detailed design across MEP, CSA and ICT systems, including lead consultant roles, design coordination and digital engineering services.

Construction Support

We support delivery through construction administration, client representation, CDM advisory, technical assurance, commissioning readiness and site-based engineering services.

Commissioning & Handover

We provide commissioning management, client-side commissioning assurance, performance validation, integrated systems testing, and operational readiness support.

Lifecycle & Operational Support

We extend asset performance through post-handover monitoring, lifecycle replacement strategies, embodied carbon analysis and operational optimisation.

Specialist Engineering Expertise

RED brings together deep technical capability across:

  • Mechanical, Electrical & Public Health (MEP) engineering
  • ICT and digital infrastructure design
  • Energy systems and grid integration
  • Sustainability and carbon reduction strategy
  • Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling
  • Commissioning and systems integration (RED Specialist Services)
  • Health, safety and regulatory compliance engineering

This multidisciplinary approach ensures that every design decision is aligned with performance, resilience and long-term operational efficiency.

A Global Organisation, Backed by Engineering Scale

RED operates as part of Tractebel, an international engineering and consultancy organisation within the ENGIE Group.

As RED’s parent company, Tractebel brings additional depth of expertise across global infrastructure markets, including nuclear energy, renewables, power and gas systems, electrical grids, hydropower, water resources, desalination, transport infrastructure, and complex high-tech buildings.

Tractebel’s global engineering capability strengthens RED’s ability to deliver integrated solutions across energy and infrastructure systems at scale.

ENGIE is a global reference in low-carbon energy and services, operating in over 30 countries with approximately 96,000 employees. As a pioneer of the energy transition, ENGIE is committed to accelerating the shift toward a carbon-neutral world through reduced energy consumption and the development of integrated energy systems combining molecules and electrons.

Together, ENGIE and Tractebel provide a global engineering platform that complements RED’s specialist expertise in digital infrastructure.

Global Reach

RED operates from 19 locations worldwide, enabling close collaboration with clients across key global markets.

Our offices span Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia, supporting regional delivery while maintaining global technical consistency and expertise.

This footprint enables us to combine global best practice with local regulatory understanding, ensuring effective delivery across diverse markets and project environments.

Our Purpose

At RED, we don’t just design Data Centres.

We engineer the digital infrastructure that enables the modern world - connecting people, powering economies, and supporting the technologies that define the future.

As demand for AI, cloud and digital services continues to accelerate, we remain focused on delivering infrastructure that is not only scalable and resilient, but also sustainable, intelligent and future-ready.

RED is engineering the infrastructure behind the AI economy - designing the systems that power a connected, intelligent world.
